CONCEPT:
The Central Plataeu is a unique area of high visual amenity and natural beauty, home to Tongariro National Park, dual UNESCO World Heritage status. Tongariro National Park was the first national park in New Zealand and the fourth in the world. It is also a dual World Heritage area, a status which recognises the park's important Maori cultural and spiritual associations as well as its outstanding volcanic features.

We came to the area drawn by these qualities and are committed to their continuing preservation. With this in mind, Station Lodge is committed to preserving this natural beauty, and will adopt minimal impact practices, to be energy efficient, operate using the best practice and contribute to the broader local sustainability of the area.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY:
Station Lodge is learning to improve our Carbon Footprint (your carbon footprint is the sum of all emissions of CO2 [carbon dioxide], which are induced by your activities in a given time frame), by mainly reducing the consumption of water and electricity.

Standard operating procedures to minimise waste and conserve energy at Station Lodge include:
- Low energy bulbs and energy efficient appliances.
- All laundry powders are biodegradable and so are the majority of our other cleaning products.

We encourage
- Having shorter showers.

- Walking or using public transport
